Actor Aadi Saikumar has been constantly dabbling with commercial films. But none have resulted in box office success after ‘Lovely’. The actor now wants to move slightly away from the ambit of commercial cinema and look forward to experiment with new genres and new stories. The actor believes which give new experience to film lovers and his fans. Ahead of film ‘Top Gear which is releasing at the box office on December 30, Aadi shares new insights after working with the project and more..

How different is ‘Top Gear’ from your earlier films and why you had to do it?
“Certainly it is a different story compared with all my earlier films. It’s a fast-moving racy thriller. The story takes place in the span of 24 hours. I heard two stories before signing the movie. One is a political thriller and other story is this one which had zeroed in to work with. I played the role of a cabbie in the movie. Every now and then I hear a lot of scripts are thrillers. So there is no escaping from it. It’s not a complete thriller, it is a racy and has elements of suspense. How this protagonist finds a way out the unforeseen circumstances is the story in short. The central conflict in all my movies is unpredictable. Take the example of ‘Black’. The idea was fresh for audiences. Now a days, it’s hard to predict audiences’ preferences. There should some “wow element” to pull the crowd to theatres these days.”

Your fans are eager to watch you in a mass avatar, do you have any such scripts?
“Post the ‘KGF’, the landscape of thriller genre has been changed. The influence of Hollywood is ever increasing so the standards in the mainstream keep changing. I have one powerful script which may portray me in mass avatar. But producers are a bit jittery in taking a firm decision on it. If I had to a mass flicks, I would go for it. But I don’t think regular scripts with mass characters would suit me.”

You have been doing commercial films, but none of them have resulted in box office success. Is there any process that you adopted to break the jinx?
“Yes, certainly I’ve to do more content driven films. Top Gear is one of them. Every script is more or less laced with commercial tinge. Choosing out-of-the box stories is certainly in my list. Now I am doing a web series for Zee5 which is a content-driven project. I’ll try work on realistic stories.”

Your father senior star Saikumar had negative roles under his belt. Have you ever given a thought of accepting roles of such kind?
“Presently, I am in a good flow, I don’t want to break this. I’d like to continue as lead protagonist. I don’t want to overlap the films that I am currently working on. But if there is anything extra-ordinary, I would surely give a thought.

What are the highlights of the film?
‘Top Gear’ is a complete engaging entertainer. Music is again a pillar to the film. Technically very strong film.

Any projects in the pipeline?
I have signed a project for Lucky Media. I have wrapped up a web series ‘Puli Meka’ which is produced by Kona Venkat. Lavanya Tripati is playing the female lead. The story revolves around the serial killer. They’re planning a launch date soon.

‘Top Gear features Aadi and Riya Suman in the lead roles. Actor Brahmaji, Satyam Rajesh, Mime Gopi, Narra, Shatru and Banerjee play key roles. Directed by K Sashikanth, the film’s music is rendered by Harshavardhan Rameshwar.
