DYK Sridevi’s mother once wanted her to marry THIS South superstar?
Kamal Haasan and Sridevi were two of the most talented actors in the Indian film industry, known for delivering several blockbuster hits together. They appeared in films like Sadma, Moondram Pirai, Varumayin Niram Sivappu, and 16 Vayathinile, making them one of the most iconic on-screen pairs. However, a lesser-known fact is that Sridevi’s mother once wanted her to marry Kamal Haasan.
In an interview after Sridevi’s untimely demise, Kamal Haasan revealed that Sridevi’s mother frequently expressed her wish for them to marry. Kamal, however, always saw Sridevi as a family member and gently declined her mother’s requests. He even joked that if they had married, they would have driven each other mad within a day. Despite the close friendship, their relationship remained purely professional, and Sridevi always showed deep respect for Kamal by calling him ‘Sir’ throughout her life.
The two actors first met on the sets of the Tamil film Moondru Mudichu, where Kamal Haasan not only played a significant role but also worked as an Assistant Director. At the time, Sridevi was only 13 years old, and Kamal took responsibility for rehearsing scenes with her, ensuring she felt comfortable on set. Their bond grew stronger as they worked together on multiple successful films, but marriage was never on the cards for Kamal.

While Sridevi went on to marry filmmaker Boney Kapoor in 1996, with whom she had two daughters, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor, Kamal Haasan had his own complex personal life. He first married classical dancer Vani Ganapathy in 1978, but the couple divorced after 10 years. Kamal later married Sarika, with whom he had two daughters, Shruti and Akshara Haasan. Unfortunately, this marriage also ended in 2004.
Both Sridevi and Kamal Haasan left a lasting legacy in Indian cinema, with their iconic performances continuing to inspire generations of actors. Despite personal ups and downs, their professional relationship remains one of the most celebrated partnerships in the industry.
