DYK Sridevi once almost tied rakhi to Boney Kapoor?
Boney Kapoor, the renowned Bollywood film producer, in an interview shared an intriguing anecdote about his relationship with his late wife, legendary actress Sridevi. In a candid conversation, Boney revealed a light-hearted moment involving his mother, Nirmal Kapoor, and Sridevi. At the time, Boney and Sridevi had not yet married, and his mother, having sensed his affection for Sridevi, tried to encourage a sibling-like bond between them. She presented Sridevi with a Rakhi on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, asking her to tie a rakhi on Boney’s wrist.
Boney humorously recalled how Sridevi was confused about the whole situation and retreated to a room, not knowing what to do. He comforted her by saying, “Don’t worry, don’t bother, keep this rakhi here.” This incident, though awkward at the time, now seems to reflect a light moment in their relationship that eventually blossomed into marriage.
Before tying the knot with Sridevi, Boney Kapoor was married to Mona Shourie Kapoor. Boney and Mona had two children together, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor. Despite his strong feelings for Sridevi, Boney admitted that he was upfront with Mona about his emotions. He mentioned that his wife, Mona, was fully aware of his feelings for Sridevi long before they got married in 1996. He even shared that Sridevi had stayed in their house before their marriage. Boney expressed a sense of guilt but also highlighted that he was always honest with Mona, saying, “I do feel guilty but I was very honest with my wife, Arjun’s mother, Mona.”
Sridevi’s death at the age of 54 in Dubai on February 24, 2018, was a shocking moment for the entire nation. The cause of death was ruled as accidental drowning in her hotel room’s bathtub. In one of the interviews, Boney Kapoor recalled the aftermath of Sridevi’s tragic death. He detailed how he underwent extensive questioning and investigations by the Dubai authorities and Indian media. Boney stated that despite the emotional turmoil he faced, the police thoroughly investigated the case and gave him a clean chit after concluding that there was no foul play involved. Boney shared, “I went through all the interrogation, including the lie detector test. The report clearly stated that it was an accidental death by drowning.”
