DYK Dulquer Salmaan rejected Mahanati in the first go?
At the success event for Lucky Bhaskar, director Nag Ashwin shared an interesting story about Dulquer Salmaan, recalling how the actor initially hesitated to join Mahanati. This movie, which eventually became one of his major successes, marked Dulquer’s debut in Telugu cinema, where he played the role of iconic actor Gemini Ganesan.
According to Ashwin, when he first approached Dulquer with the idea of Mahanati, Dulquer declined without even hearing the full script. The actor was unsure about working in a Telugu film, especially since he wasn’t confident about speaking the language. He wondered whether the Telugu audience would accept him, as he was unfamiliar with the culture and language. However, Ashwin persisted in convincing him, believing Dulquer could deliver an outstanding performance.
🗣️ Nag Ashwin : “When i went to Chennai to narrate Mahanati, he said he can’t do a telugu film because of the language problem and that he doesn’t think he can do that role. After 6 years, I’m here to celebrate his hatrick blockbuster in Telugu”#DulquerSalmaan #LuckyBaskhar pic.twitter.com/RJ7Fqw0mYU

Reflecting on Dulquer’s journey, Ashwin expressed pride in the actor’s achievements in Telugu cinema. Over the years, Dulquer has proven himself with multiple hit films, and he now enjoys a strong fan base in the Telugu film industry. Ashwin’s words at the event highlighted how Dulquer has successfully bridged the language barrier, becoming almost as popular as Telugu’s homegrown stars. “Six years and three hits later, Dulquer is one of Telugu cinema’s most celebrated stars,” Ashwin stated.
Lucky Bhaskar has added to Dulquer’s growing success in the Telugu market, capturing audience attention despite facing competition from other releases. The film’s crime drama storyline and Dulquer’s powerful performance have earned him widespread praise, with the movie nearing the 100-crore mark at the box office.
In terms of upcoming projects, Dulquer is set to appear in Kaantha and Aakasam La Oka Tara, both of which promise to showcase his versatility as an actor.
