Divya Khossla Kumar calls out Alia Bhatt for alleged Jigra rigging
Recently, Divya Khossla Kumar publicly criticized Alia Bhatt on social media, accusing her of manipulating the box office numbers for the film Jigra. The movie, released on October 11, struggled in its opening, making only ₹4.25 crore from the Hindi version, while the Telugu version earned a mere ₹5 lakh.
Divya expressed her disbelief on Instagram, sharing a photo of an empty theater. She wrote about her visit to the Citi Mall PVR for a Jigra screening, noting that the theater was completely empty. She suggested that Alia had bought tickets to inflate the film’s earnings, saying, “#Aliabhatt me sach mein Bahut #Jigra hai.. khud hi tickets karide aur fake collections announce kar diye.” Divya questioned why the media was not addressing this issue, using hashtags like #truthoverlies and #weshdnotfooltheaudience.
The feud between the two actresses seems to be intensifying. Divya’s comments may have stemmed from similarities between Jigra and her own film, Savi, which follows a housewife trying to rescue her husband from jail. In Jigra, Alia’s character works to break her brother out of prison.
Jigra, directed by Vasan Bala, explores themes of sibling bonds, featuring Alia as Satya and Vedang Raina as her brother, who is facing death row for dubious drug charges. Following Divya’s remarks, Karan Johar, who collaborates with Alia, cryptically defended her on Instagram, stating that “Silence is the best speech you will ever give to fools.” In response, Divya asserted that the truth often offends those who oppose it.
