Vijay Sethupathi has continued his streak of success with his latest film Maharaja which has been a huge hit at the box office. The film praised for its l storyline has grossed over 100 crores. Interestingly, recent reports suggest that Sethupathi did not charge any salary for his role as Maharaja.
Directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, Maharaja premiered on Netflix on June 14 this year. The film had a modest budget of 20 crores. To manage expenses, it is believed that Vijay Sethupathi chose not to take any remuneration upfront. Instead, he opted to receive a portion of the profits the film made.
This unique decision highlights Sethupathi’s confidence in the film’s success and his commitment to the project. By sharing in the profits, he showed his belief in the film’s potential and his dedication to its success.
During an interview, Vijay Sethupathi revealed an emotional moment while shooting Maharaja. He recounted a scene where his character describes a robbery at his home. While delivering this dialogue, Sethupathi found himself deeply moved. “When I was narrating the third story to the cops, I broke down. The first two times I was fine, but the third time, the tears were real,” he shared.
In another interview, Vijay Sethupathi expressed his admiration for the Bollywood film Badlapur directed by Sriram Raghavan and starring Varun Dhawan. He mentioned his desire to see the film remade in Tamil and his wish to be part of it.
In 2024, Vijay Sethupathi has already delivered two major hits, Merry Christmas and Maharaja. Looking ahead, he is set to star in two more films, including Gandhi Talks, an Indian silent film. Additionally, he is involved in Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai Part 2 adding to his busy and successful year.
