Chiranjeevi’s recent comments on re-recording have ignited a social media debate, with many speculating that his remarks indirectly target Rajinikanth. Amidst this, a piece of news regarding Chiranjeevi’s rejection of an old Rajinikanth movie has raised eyebrows.
Rajinikanth’s Baasha continues to hold a special place in the hearts of movie lovers, remaining one of the most beloved commercial films to date. The film set a new standard for heroism and narrative elevation, and its screenplay served as an inspiration for many directors. The concept of an ordinary man with a hidden, extraordinary past, a trope that is still prevalent in cinema today, originated with Rajinikanth’s “Baasha.”
In a recent interaction with the media, the film’s director, Suresh Krissna, unveiled an intriguing detail. When asked about who could carry out the remake of the film, Krissna emphasized the need for a superstar to do justice to the subject.
Interestingly, during the 90s, after the tremendous success of “Baasha,” Suresh Krissna had contemplated a Telugu remake with Chiranjeevi. However, due to Chiranjeevi’s prior commitments, Megastar stayed away from the project and didn’t materialize. Rajinikanth then suggested the name of Mohan Babu for the role, but the director promptly dismissed the idea, indicating that a star of greater stature, like Chiranjeevi, was required for the role. With Chiranjeevi’s unavailability, the makers of “Baasha” eventually released a direct dubbed version, which also turned out to be a massive hit in Telugu.
When asked about which Tamil actor could step into the iconic role of Baasha today, the director opined that among the current stars, Ajith Kumar would be a suitable choice. This underlines the lasting impact of Rajinikanth’s “Baasha” on the world of cinema and the enduring legacy of the superstar.
