Controversy swirls around Shekhar Kammula’s latest film Kubera as a dispute over the title has emerged unexpectedly. The movie boasts a star-studded cast including Dhanush, Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna, and Jim Sarbh. However, another producer, Karmikonda Narendra, claims ownership of the movie rights to the title Kubera.
Narendra had previously registered the title Kubera with the Telangana Chamber of Commerce. He alleges that despite bringing this to the Chamber’s attention, there was no response. Now, he intends to pursue legal action to assert his rights over the title, which could potentially disrupt the production plans for Kammula’s film and spark unwarranted debate.
Expressing disappointment, Narendra states that his company had already completed filming a movie under the same title. He accuses Kammula’s team of releasing a first look for their “Kubera” without verifying the title’s availability, and despite his complaint to the Telangana Film Chamber, no action was taken.
In response, Narendra is adamant about defending his claim on the title and urges the Telangana Film Chamber to intervene and resolve the conflict. He is prepared to take the matter to court if necessary.
This unforeseen controversy looms over the release of Shekhar Kammula’s Kubera, with the outcome of the legal dispute determining its future. The film industry closely monitors the situation, recognizing its potential to set a precedent for similar disputes over movie titles.
To avoid legal entanglements, the producers of Dhanush’s Kubera may need to address the copyright issue promptly. While discussions are reportedly underway, questions arise as to why Narendra pursued legal action if negotiations were ongoing. Further developments will reveal whether “Kubera” retains its title or if alternative measures, such as “Dhanush’s Kubera,” become necessary.
