The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) has decided to pause the launch of new film projects starting August 16 and halt all film-related activities from November 1. This decision aims to address production backlogs and manage production costs, artist wages, and other expenses more effectively.
A recent meeting in Chennai included representatives from various film industry associations including the Tamil Film Producers Association, Tamil Nadu Theater Owners Association, Tamil Nadu Multiple Theater Owners Association, and Tamil Nadu Film Distributors Association. The meeting highlighted issues with actors and technicians abandoning projects after receiving advance payments, causing significant losses for producers. To tackle this, the TFPC has mandated that actors and technicians must complete their current projects before starting new ones.
#Raayan: More than the trailer and other promotional content, this duo singing at the audio launch does the biggest promotion for the film, resulting in the biggest Box office weekend for #Dhanush. The video song is the peak and most celebrated moment in this cinema. https://t.co/v9G37jviqN pic.twitter.com/J7t0QdnSbl

What’s interesting is that actor Dhanush’s name was specifically mentioned. The council advised producers to consult with them before involving Dhanush in new projects. In 2023, Shree Thenandal Films alleged that Dhanush took an advance payment but did not show up for the shoot. This incident prompted the TFPC to stress that producers should confirm with the Tamil Film Producers Association before starting any new projects with him.
Additionally, it was agreed that star-studded films would be released on OTT platforms eight weeks after their theatrical release. This decision is part of the new guidelines set by the TFPC to address delays in film releases. To ensure these measures are effective, all new film projects will be halted from August 16 and all film-related activities will cease from November 1.
The TFPC has also formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising producers, distributors, and theater owners to resolve various industry issues. This committee will work towards finding solutions to the challenges facing the Tamil film industry.
