Daily hearings ordered in Y.S. Jagan’s case by High Court

YS Jagan case:

The Telangana High Court has mandated that the Special Court for CBI cases conduct daily hearings for the disproportionate assets case against former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. The High Court noted that the case, which has seen little progress for years, needs to be expedited.

The directive came from a bench comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice T. Vinod Kumar. This action follows a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by former minister Chegondi Venkata Harirama Jogaiah. Jogaiah, a prominent figure in the Kapu community, sought to ensure the trial concludes before the 2024 elections.

YS Jagan Case:

Jogaiah highlighted that Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with other accused including YSR Congress senior leader V. Vijayasai Reddy, has filed 129 discharge petitions across 20 cases. These cases are being handled by the Principal Special Judge for CBI cases in Hyderabad and the Metropolitan Sessions Judge in Nampally.

Previously, the High Court had instructed the CBI and relevant courts to expedite the trials against Jagan. During a hearing on Wednesday, Jogaiah argued that the accused were intentionally delaying the trial. In response, the High Court directed the CBI court to conduct daily hearings and report the trial’s progress to the High Court.

The next hearing is scheduled for July 23, with the CBI court expected to submit a progress report by then.
