D Gukesh made history by defeating Ding Liren in the decisive Game 14 of the FIDE World Chess Championship, becoming the youngest-ever world champion at just 18 years old. The intense final match showcased Gukesh’s strategic brilliance and resilience, as he played with the black pieces against the reigning champion, Ding.

The game began with Gukesh taking a strong early lead. However, Ding fought back, creating significant challenges for the young player. Gukesh faced critical decisions, particularly during a tense 17th move when Ding counterattacked using his knight and bishop, putting Gukesh on the defensive. As the game progressed, Ding attempted to steer the match toward a draw by offering a queen trade-off. Gukesh eventually accepted, leading to a dramatic endgame.

The turning point came in the 55th move when Ding blundered by moving his rook to f2. Gukesh immediately capitalized on the mistake, shifting the momentum in his favor. Ding resigned shortly after, marking the end of a remarkable match.

After his victory, an emotional Gukesh reflected on his journey, expressing gratitude to his family, team, and supporters. “Winning this title has been my dream since childhood,” he said. “To bring the championship back to India after 11 years is an incredible feeling.”

Ding, gracious in defeat, acknowledged his mistake but stated he had no regrets, calling it one of his best tournaments.

With this victory, Gukesh becomes the second Indian to win the world chess championship, following Viswanathan Anand. His achievement marks a significant milestone in Indian chess and inspires future generations of players.
