D Company Review

RGV in collaboration with his business partner has launched a new OTT called Spark and as its first film, RGV’s D Company has been released. Read our review to find out if the film has any juice in it or not.

Plot

The film is set in the 1980s in Mumbai where the local don and underworld culture had just started. When some of the big wigs face problems with each other, a noted gang approaches Dawood Ibrahim(Ashwat Kanth) and his brother Sabir Ibrahim. Taking this as a chance, Dawood rises as a local don of Mumbai by gunning down all his enemies. How he does this is the basic story.

Performances

The film is filled with new actors and this is the biggest upsetting factor. RGV has chosen actors who are sleepwalking in their roles. Ashwat, who plays Dawood looks weak and has no effect on the film and comes to his own in the climax.

Naina Ganguly is used only for skin show. Also, the guys who play some of the biggest dons are weak and do not create any impact at all. The guys wh play Kareem Lala and other big dons are sleepwalking in their roles.

Analysis

RGV is famous for making films on underworld dons and he has a special interest in Dawood Ibrahim. So, he has made films on him in the past and the latest one is D Company which is his favorite subject. The film is set in the ’80s where Dawood starts as a small-time goon. All this is established well and the emergence of Dawood is shown through a gang war.

But the initial part of the film is slow and RGV further bores us with his silly voice-over. The film has repeated gangster-based scenes and has nothing new to be showcased. The film has no serious actor and this is where there is no effect in the proceedings.

Even though the BGM is good, the depth is not created due to the dull casting. In a nutshell, D Company is a film that has the feeling of been there done that kind of scenario. RGV himself has made so many films and the only interest here is the back story of Dawood Ibrahim.

Bottom Line – Nothing New
