Karimnagar: A couple from Nerella village in Telangana’s Karimnagar district has been arrested for allegedly murdering their mentally ill daughter, according to police reports on Monday.
Rajanna Sircilla Superintendent of Police, Akhil Mahajan, stated that Chepyala Narsaiah (49) and his wife Yellavva (43) were taken into custody for the murder of their daughter Priyanka (24). The couple had initially claimed that Priyanka’s death was due to natural causes.
Priyanka had been suffering from a mental disorder for several years. Despite receiving treatment and getting married, her condition persisted. She had a 13-month-old son. As her mental health deteriorated further, her parents sought additional treatment and even took her to a place of worship, but to no avail.
Frustrated by the lack of improvement, Narsaiah and Yellavva allegedly decided to end her life. On May 14, they reportedly strangled Priyanka with a rope while she was asleep at their home. The following day, they informed their son-in-law of her death and conducted the funeral.
Suspicious of the circumstances surrounding Priyanka’s death, villagers lodged a complaint with the police. During the investigation, the couple confessed to the crime. They have been remanded to judicial custody, and further investigations are ongoing, according to Superintendent Mahajan.
