The novel COVID-19 witnessing spike in cases and fatalities increasing, the World Health Organization (WHO) made a bold admission stating that the new corovavirus is at least 10 times deadlier than the Swine Flu virus. The SARS-CoV2 has infected over 18 lakh people and killed over 1.17 lakh globally. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “We know that COVID-19 spreads fast, and we know that it is deadly, 10 times more deadly than the 2009 flu pandemic”.
Swine Flu pandemic
Swine Flu began in 2009 and was present from January 2009 to August 2010. The influence had killed 18,036 people besides infecting 6,04,446 others globally. However, the COVId-19 is deadlier and is more than a health crisis. “In the past week, we’ve seen a welcome slowing in some of the hardest-hit countries in Europe like Spain, Italy, Germany and France,” said the WHO Director-General.
