Cobra Movie Review

Cobra is a film that has been in the making for a long time now. The film starring Vikram has hit the screens today. Read on to see if the film has any juice in it or not.

Plot

Madhi(Vikram) is a mathematics genius who has another side to his brightness. Without knowing anyone, he commits big crimes on an international level. An interpol agent named Kaslan(Irfan Pathan) is brought into the scene. But he too is clueless as Madhi has a dark side and is not one but two people. Who are these two people and will the cops be able to nab him is the rest of the story.

Performances

Vikram is known for his acting skills but he is lost in translation here in Cobra. He plays a double role in the film and does one part well. The other role, he just sleepwalks. Irfan Pathan makes his movie debut and he is impressive in the film. He as a cop looks stylish and gives a settled performance. Srinidhi Shetty gets a good role and she was quite good in it. The other characters do not create much impact on the screen. Mrinilini Ravi is an exception though.

What’s Good

What’s Bad

Slow pace
Confusing screenplay

Analysis

Cobra is a simple story which can be narrated in a thrilling manner. But the director Ajay chose not to and confused the audience after a point. The way he set up the first half was pretty good but the film falls flat in the latter part. The manner in which the proceedings take forever to come to the key point is the biggest drawback.

The characters played by Vikram do not have many conflict points in them. This is where the film lacks soul. A simple is stretched for no reason. The emotions do not create much impact as a key second half is dragged for no reason. The hallucination scenes are boring and are over done to no extent.

Vikram looks lost in the film and he is out of form when it comes to action. But what keeps us going is AR Rahman’s music and BGM which is good. The fights are nice and the visuals are also grand. But the film does not impact you much. A fun entertainer is spoiled by some faulty narration and ends Cobra as a misfire.

Bottom Line – Bites the Dust
