ChatGPT may get cheaper in India

OpenAI is reportedly considering a partnership with Reliance Industries to expand its AI presence in India. The discussions involve Reliance Jio potentially distributing ChatGPT within the country. Additionally, OpenAI is exploring a significant reduction in its subscription prices, cutting them by 75-85% from the current $20 per month.

Reliance is interested in offering OpenAI models to its enterprise users through an application programming interface (API). Furthermore, the company is discussing the possibility of hosting and running AI models locally. This move is intended to ensure data protection and privacy by keeping Indian users’ data within the country.

To support this initiative, Reliance is planning to build a large-scale data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat, with a capacity of 3 gigawatts. If successful, it will become one of the world’s largest data centers. High-capacity data centers are essential for running AI models that require intensive computational power.

Mukesh Ambani’s firm is also collaborating with Nvidia, a leading AI semiconductor manufacturer. Nvidia’s chips will be used to strengthen AI infrastructure in India. This partnership was previously announced during Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s visit to the country.

A price cut in ChatGPT subscriptions could significantly increase AI accessibility in India. With a more affordable subscription plan, more users can explore AI-powered tools and applications. This could also foster innovation and AI adoption across various industries.
