Chandrababu Naidu’s strategic win in Union Budget 2024

Chandrababu Naidu has secured significant allocations for Andhra Pradesh in the latest Union Budget. This is the first time in five years that Andhra Pradesh has received specific financial support from the central government. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced ₹15,000 crore for Amaravati and funds for other important projects like the Polavaram Project, the Vishakapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor, and a special package for Rayalaseema, Prakasam, and Uttarandhra districts.

After the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) parted ways with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Andhra Pradesh did not receive any specific allocations in the Union Budget. During this time, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the current Chief Minister, focused mainly on loans and dealing with legal issues related to his disproportionate assets and the murder case of YS Vivekananda Reddy.

Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP played a crucial role in the central government’s dynamics, especially after the BJP and its allies fell short of the majority in Parliament. Despite having the opportunity to demand more cabinet positions, Naidu prioritized securing extensive financial support for Andhra Pradesh. His efforts paid off, as reflected in the current budget allocations.

This strategic move by Naidu came when Jagan Mohan Reddy was protesting in the national capital. The contrast between Naidu’s success in securing funds and Jagan’s ongoing political struggles highlights Naidu’s effective leadership. This situation is seen as a perfect political checkmate by Naidu, showcasing his commitment to state development over political maneuvering.
