Actor Vishal has been reasonably successful in building his action star image well over the years across an impressive range of subjects. Chakra, his next release across all the four South Indian languages, promises to be a good addition to his filmography, going by the trailer. The film originally shot in Tamil, which rather feels like a spiritual sequel to his cybercrime thriller Abhimanyudu, has him playing an officer working in the defence sector. While Shraddha Srinath steps into the shoes of a police officer, another lead actor Regina Cassandra is conspicuous by her absence in the trailer. Does she play the antagonist? Keep guessing.
A bank robbery, an antagonist donning a mask, an investigation into a cybercrime case, heavy dose of action amid a pulsating background score from Yuvan Shankar Raja, Chakra creates the right element of intrigue with the trailer without revealing the story (a mistake that most films make). The innovative action choreography, catchy visuals from cinematographer Balasubramaniam, Shraddha Srinath’s strong presence further added value to the 2-minute-long trailer that ends with a dialogue by Narendra Modi in reference to the Digital India campaign. M S Anandan directs the film.
While there were rumours that the filmmakers were considering an OTT release for Chakra, they have clarified to the media that they don’t have any such plans. Given what the trailer tells us, the film certainly merits a big screen experience. Manobala, Robo Shankar, KR Vijay, Srushti Dange too play key roles in Chakra.
