On June 14, 2024, actress Chandini Chowdhary experienced an unusual situation with the simultaneous release of her two films, “Yevam” and “Music Shop Murthy.” Unfortunately, both films did not perform well in theaters. Yevam directed by Prakash Dantuluri, features Vasishta Simha in a key role as the antagonist.
Despite its lackluster performance in theaters, “Yevam” premiered on the Telugu streaming platform Aha on July 25, 2024. Aha holds the post-theatrical rights for the film, and there’s a significant demand for murder mysteries on OTT platforms. “Yevam” is anticipated to perform well in the digital space.
Directed by Prakash Dantuluri, “Yevam” stars Chandini Chowdary as Soumya, a young police officer determined to catch a serial killer. The film is set in the Vikarabad region, where a psychopath named Yugandhar, played by Vasishta Simha uses the name of the film hero Prabhas to lure and kill girls. Soumya, a new sub-inspector in the area, works alongside Abhiram who is also an SI. Abhiram is facing marital issues with his wife Harika, leading them to live separately. During this period, Abhiram and Soumya grow closer while Harika starts investigating Soumya.

The movie’s plot unfolds with several key questions: Why does Yugandhar target girls using Prabhas’s name? What caused the issues between Abhiram and Harika? How are Harika and Yugandhar connected? Is there a link between Yugandhar and Abhiram? What surprising truths are uncovered during Soumya’s investigation? These elements form the crux of “Yevam.”
Vasishta Simha’s portrayal of the villain has received particular praise. Bharat Raj and Ashu Reddy also play crucial roles in the narrative. The film was produced by Navadeep and Pavan Goparaju with music by Keertana Sesh and Neelesh Mandalapu.
Meanwhile, Chandini Chowdhary’s other film, “Music Shop Murthy,” is available on ETV Win, while “Yevam” can now be streamed on Aha. Reports indicate that Aha acquired the digital rights to “Yevam” for a significant sum reflecting confidence in the movie’s appeal.
