Chandrababu Naidu Land:
Corruption has been a significant issue in Andhra Pradesh, particularly during the tenure of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). This period saw numerous incidents of corruption involving not only political leaders but also various government officials. However, the landscape began to change when Chandrababu Naidu assumed the role of Chief Minister. Under his leadership, many instances of corruption were brought to light, implicating both YSRCP leaders and government employees.
A recent incident highlights the extent of corruption among government officials. A deputy surveyor named Saddam Hussain was found to have taken a bribe related to land owned by Chandrababu Naidu. As a consequence, he has been suspended from his position.
The story began when Chandrababu Naidu, then an opposition leader, purchased land in the Shivapuram area of Kadapalle village, located in the Santipuram mandal of Chittoor district. This land is part of Naidu’s Kuppam constituency and is situated next to the National Highway. Naidu intended to build a farmhouse on this property and, to facilitate this, leaders from his party, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), applied for a land exchange.
When the TDP leaders sought to convert the land into a sub-division, Deputy Surveyor Saddam Hussain demanded a bribe of Rs. 1.8 lakhs to carry out the necessary procedures. He only completed the required work after receiving the bribe. This issue came to light when Chandrababu Naidu visited his Kuppam constituency recently, now as the Chief Minister. During his visit, the matter was brought to his attention.
CBN inquired about the situation with the district collector, Sumit Kumar, and the joint collector, Srinivasulu. They, in turn, asked the Assistant Director of the Survey Department, Gouse Basha, to investigate the matter. The investigation revealed Saddam Hussain’s corrupt activities, including a recent demand for a Rs. 1 lakh bribe from a farmer for conducting a land survey.
The investigation into Saddam Hussain’s conduct led to a report being submitted to the joint collector. Based on the findings, Saddam Hussain was suspended from his position by the evening. This suspension is part of a broader effort by the current administration to address and curb corruption within the government.
