Plot
Anupama(Priyamani) is a typical housewife who earns her living by making Youtube videos. But she has a bad habit of peeping into other lives. When doing so about her neighbors, she gets involved in a murder mystery and hells breaks loose because of a special egg. She cannot go out of the apartment but needs to prove her innocence. How she manages to get out of this mess and what is egg’s history is the basic story of Bhama Kalapam.
Performances
Priyamani is the life and soul of the film. The manner in which she owns the role of a desperate housewife is shown so well by the award-winning actress. Saranya, who plays the role of a maid is also very good in her supporting role. The Tamil actor who plays the main villain overacts like there is no tomorrow. The film is filled with Tamil actors and the one who played the pregnant cop was very good. The character of the church father is a special attraction in the end.
Analysis
The film is set amidst an apartment society and is about a housewife who always peeps into others’ lives. What happens when such a person lands into a murder mystery is the plot. This aspect is shown in a very convincing manner in the first half.
The manner in which a gangster robs an expensive egg and how it reaches the apartment is also very good in the film. The various links in the film are connected quite nicely by the director. Especially, the manner in which a Church father gets the egg and how he misuses it is also nice.
The BGM is very good and the way the small apartment setup is shown is very good. The thrills in the film have been elevated nicely. A scene where Priyamani has to put the dead body in the suitcase is executed so convincingly.
Bhama Kalapam is a simple murder mystery that has ample scenes that will engage you. Though the drama should have been better, it makes up for a good OTT watch.
