Bagheera OTT release: Sriimurali’s film locks its digital premiere date
Sriimurali’s much-anticipated Kannada movie Bagheera finally hit theaters on Diwali, October 31. Directed by Dr. Suri and penned by Salaar writer Prashanth Neel, this action thriller received mixed-to-positive reviews from audiences. As the film released, social media buzzed with news that Bagheera’s streaming rights had been acquired by Netflix, which could make it the first Kannada film to stream on the platform.
Reports from OTT Play suggest that Netflix has secured the movie’s digital rights, a significant development since Netflix has previously avoided releasing Kannada films. Some speculate that Netflix agreed to distribute it as a Telugu original due to Prashanth Neel’s popularity in Telugu cinema. Although an official streaming date hasn’t been confirmed, the buzz has already stirred excitement among fans.
Online discussions hint at a breakthrough for Kannada cinema with Bagheera’s rumored debut on Netflix. One fan shared on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Netflix release is a game-changer for Sandalwood. Bagheera is a must-watch in theaters, and Sriimurali’s performance as the first Kannada superhero is top-notch!”
Apart from Sriimurali, Bagheera features actors like Rukmini Vasanth, Prakash Raj, Sudharani, and Garuda Ram. The plot follows Bagheera, a man leading a double life as an IPS officer and a vigilante, who battles crime ruthlessly. His aggressive methods put him in direct conflict with the police, creating a gripping narrative around justice and retribution.
Bagheera released alongside films like Lucky Bhaskar, Bloody Beggar, and Brother, giving audiences a variety of options for Diwali. Fans eagerly await an official announcement from Netflix or the film’s makers to confirm the streaming release.
