Are Tollywood heroines ignoring industry challenges?

The participation of heroines in the Telugu film industry (TFI) has sparked intense debate recently. During a significant meeting between Tollywood celebrities and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, approximately 36 industry figures attended. Surprisingly, no female celebrities were present,l raising eyebrows and sparking questions about their involvement in addressing industry issues.

Tollywood is a glamorous world where the success of films often depends on both heroes and heroines. While heroines play pivotal roles on-screen, their participation in off-screen matters such as industry-government discussions, remains minimal. When challenges arise in the film industry, it is usually directors, producers and heroes who represent the industry. Heroines, however, rarely appear in such forums.

In the recent meeting with CM Revanth Reddy, several major Tollywood figures were present, but no female celebrities attended. Social media users criticized heroines accusing them of prioritizing brand endorsements and remuneration hikes over addressing industry-related issues. Netizens expressed disappointment stating that heroines seem reluctant to acknowledge the struggles of the industry that has contributed to their success.

Meanwhile, few people state that heroines are overlooked by industry leaders and government bodies, leading to their absence in such meetings. Others argue that their busy schedules could be the reasons. Producer Supriya’s name surfaced as a possible attendee in a TFI meeting that happened recently, but she, too, was absent.

The absence of heroines and female artists has drawn sharp criticism online. Many believe that heroines, despite earning substantial remuneration, fail to engage with issues affecting the industry. This sentiment intensified after the recent incident at Sandhya Theater during the release of Pushpa 2. A stampede tragically claimed the life of a woman named Revathi and left her son, Sritej, hospitalized. Fans were disappointed that Pushpa heroine Rashmika Mandanna did not visit the victims.
