The recent incidents involving Telugu NRIs, especially the Balayya fans, engaging in wild celebrations have triggered a new debate. Nandamuri Balakrishna’s movie ‘Veera Simha Reddy’ is an opportunity for fans to celebrate watching their favourite hero on screen. So is Megastar Chiranjeevi’s ‘Waltair Veerayya’ which was released a day ago in the US market.

But the confetti practice ( the celebration of throwing up pieces of paper) amidst the screening is not as prevalent in American culture as it exists in India. The prescribed etiquettes do not allow such behaviour from filmgoers in the USA.
Recently, a few fans threw confetti while watching ‘Veera Simha Reddy’ in theatres. Subsequently, the management called up security to take the situation under control. Eventually, security along with police personnel urged fans to leave the hall midway and halted the show. The video that was shot by one of the audience went viral on social media. Netizens found fault with the behaviour of NRIs. Some even said that the incident might bring disgrace to India.
Meanwhile, there’s a new debate kicking off on social media. Some feel that the incident might spark racism attacks in the US. The focus now shifted to the racist narrative in the USA how natives are envious of Telugu NRIs. They feel that Indians are robbing their jobs in the IT market.
Netizens feel that it is not advisable for Indian immigrants to get into such unwanted controversies when the country is witnessing some horrific crimes.
