Despite the positive talk about the way the NTR biopic was made, Kathanayakudu somehow failed to attract the viewers. The theatres are near empty and even in B and C centres, the things don’t seem to be looking up. Normally, biopics enthuse people and draw them to the theatres When the talk is positive, the box-office sets the cash registers ringing. But, in case of Kathanayakudu, the reverse is happening. What could be the reason?
Trade pundits say had anyone other than Balayya made the film, it could have done well. The people suspected that Balayya’s film will not tell the whole truth. There was also a feeling that there would be lot of coverup about NTR’s life. To add to this, RGV’s Lakshmi’s NTR has claimed that it will tell the ‘real’ truth of NTR’s life. This has raised curiosity on RGV’s film and doubts on the truthfulness of Balayya’s film.
Meanwhile, the TDP recevied its worst ever drubbing in Telagnana and the speeches that Balayya made during the Telangana elections were trolled to no end. Even in AP, the TDP stock is down. The high level of anti-incumbency too played its part.
