Amaran, featuring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, will be released on October 31, coinciding with Diwali. This biographical action war film is based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan and is directed by Rajkumar Periasamy. The film aims to honor Major Mukund’s bravery and dedication as an Indian soldier.

Who Was Major Mukund Varadarajan?

Major Mukund Varadarajan was born on April 12, 1983, in Tamil Nadu to Geetha and R. Varadarajan. He had two sisters, Swetha and Nithya. From a young age, Mukund aspired to join the military, inspired by his grandfather and uncles, who served in the Indian Army. After completing his graduation, he pursued a Diploma in Journalism but chose to enlist in the Officers Training Academy instead, training to become a Lieutenant. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a Captain and later a Major.

Mukund participated in the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon and was promoted to Major in 2012. He served with the 44th Battalion of the Rashtriya Rifles in Jammu and Kashmir, a region known for its conflict. Tragically, at the age of 31, he was killed during an encounter with terrorists in Shopian, where he bravely fought and neutralized several militants before succumbing to his injuries. For his remarkable courage, he was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime military decoration.

The Love Story of Major Mukund and Indhu Rebecca Varghese

Mukund’s wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese, met him during their college years at Madras Christian College. In an interview, Indhu shared that she always felt Mukund was more than just a friend. Initially, her parents were concerned about their relationship because of the risks associated with a military life. Despite their apprehensions, Indhu noted, “He may not have been a romantic at heart, but his honesty made our love simple and genuine.”

Indhu often missed outings with her friends to spend Sundays waiting to meet Mukund at the Officers Training Academy. Ultimately, both their families accepted their love, and they got married, welcoming a daughter named Arsheya.

As Amaran prepares for its release, it highlights the bravery of Major Mukund Varadarajan, reminding audiences of the sacrifices made by soldiers for their country.
