Akhil Akkineni plans his next with disaster director
Director Puri Jagannath is known for his energetic films, but his recent release Double iSmart, starring Ram Pothineni, did not fare well at the box office. The movie, a sequel to iSmart Shankar, failed to impress the audience, leaving Puri in need of a hit. His previous attempt, Liger, also didn’t perform as expected. Given these setbacks, Puri is looking for fresh collaborations, particularly with younger heroes, as senior actors may be hesitant to work with him at this stage.
According to reports, Puri initially approached Siddhu Jonnalagadda for a potential project. While Siddhu showed interest in working with him, he eventually declined due to prior commitments and disagreements over the concept. This has led Puri to explore other options.
Industry insiders suggest that Puri has now entered the Akkineni camp and is in discussions with Akhil Akkineni for his next film. The talks are ongoing, but Akhil has yet to make a final decision. Akhil, who is also facing a challenging phase in his career, needs a successful collaboration to regain momentum. Whether or not he decides to team up with Puri, who is known for his unique filmmaking style, remains to be seen.
It’s worth noting that Puri previously worked with Akhil’s father, Akkineni Nagarjuna, in the 2003 film Sivamani. If this new project materializes, it could offer both Puri and Akhil a much-needed boost in their careers.
