Agent OTT
For a long time, people have been eagerly waiting for Akhil Akkineni’s movie ‘Agent’ to release on OTT platforms. Finally, there’s some clarity about its release date.
Recently, a fan of Akhil Akkineni got frustrated and asked the film producer, Anil Sunkara, to release ‘Agent’ movie on OTT through Twitter. In response, the producer mentioned that they had sold the digital rights to B4U, who then sold them to Sony. They hope that Sony will release the movie soon. The producer wrote, “ I informed you a couple of times, we sold the digital rights to B4U and they to Sony. Hope they will do it asap”.
‘Agent’ is expected to release in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. Fans are waiting for an official announcement from Sonyliv regarding its release date.
However, there have been delays in the past due to legal issues. Sonyliv had announced the OTT release date twice before but faced obstacles because of a legal dispute initiated by a distributor named Battula Satyanarayana. He claimed that the movie wasn’t available in certain regions despite having the rights for distributing it in Telugu states. Allegedly, the producer declined compensation for the losses incurred.
The ongoing legal case and the reported changes being made to the OTT version of the movie might be causing the delay in its release date.
‘Agent’ is directed by Surender Reddy and is a spy-action film made with a budget of approximately eighty crores. Despite high anticipation, the movie disappointed at the box office, earning only eight crores. The lack of originality in storytelling led to significant losses for the producers. The movie’s storyline was crafted by Vakkantham Vamsi, and despite Akhil’s efforts, it didn’t perform well.
The film features legendary actor Mammootty in a crucial role. It revolves around characters like RAW chief Major Mahadev, portrayed by Mammootty, Akhil Akkineni’s Ramakrishna as ‘Wild Sala,’ and Dino Morea’s Dharma as ‘The God.’ While being an action-packed thriller, ‘Agent’ also includes elements of romance and sentimentality in its narrative.
