Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko has made a significant impact on the regional film industry with his versatile performances and several box office hits. In a recent interview, Chacko talked about his experience with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and how he views it as a strength rather than a weakness.
During his conversation with Manorama Online, Chacko, who is 40 years old, shared his journey with ADHD. He described one of the main symptoms of ADHD as a strong desire to gain attention and a constant need for it. He explained, “I have ADHD. I’m an ADHD kid. It’s a diagnosed condition. People with ADHD often seek to catch others’ attention.”
Chacko humorously pointed out that many actors, including himself, might exhibit traits of ADHD because their job involves being in the spotlight. He mentioned that actors often dress up and stay in public to draw attention, reflecting the nature of ADHD.
He elaborated on how ADHD affects people differently. For some, the condition is more intense, leading them to seek more attention compared to others. Chacko noted that this trait sometimes shows in their acting performances. “Actors with ADHD might try to go beyond what is required of their characters to capture more attention from the audience,” he said.
Chacko’s comments follow a similar revelation by actor Fahadh Faasil, who disclosed his ADHD diagnosis at the age of 41.
Despite the challenges, Chacko views ADHD positively. He does not see it as a hindrance but as a unique quality that benefits him. “Outsiders might see it as a disorder, but for me, ADHD is one of my best qualities. Some might say ‘a stain is good’—it might not be true for everyone, but for me, ADHD has been very helpful,” he said.
On the professional front, Chacko was last seen in the film Little Hearts. He has several upcoming projects including Adios Amigo, Bazooka, and Devara: Part 1.
