Adbhutam is the new OTT release of hero Teja Sajja on Disney Hotstar. Read our review to find out if the film has any juice in it or not.
Plot
Suriya played by Teja Sajja decides to end his life. He gets ready and sends a message to his own number stating no one is responsible for his death. But that message reaches Vennela. There is a twist here and that is, Vennela is in 2016 and Suriya is in 2019. What is this weird connection? How it is solved is the crux of Adhbhutam.
Performances
Shivani Rajasekhar gets a meaty role and also good scope to perform. She is a bit rustic in her approach but with more films, she will be fine as she has passable acting skills. Teja Sajja has always been a performer and he does an impressive job in this film. Teja looks good and handles the crunch scenes well. The rest of the cast like comedian, Satya, and Tulasi are good.
Analysis
The film is based on a phone conversation between past and present. This logic is established well by the director Ram in the first half which has thrill and decent suspense factor.
The confusion as to what is happening between past and present is only evoked properly until the first half. Later, when the director brings in the love angle, the film becomes yet another routine rom-com.
There are so many factors that de-rail the film. The emotional content should have been strong. The heroine falls in love with no proper impact of the hero on her. There are many scenes that look predictable as the film has the same story of Playback. If you did not see that film, give Adbhutam a chance.
Bottom Line – Good concept gone wrong
