Aamir Khan’s meeting with First Lady of Turkey Emine Erdoğan has upset many netizens at home. Aamir Khan is in Turkey for the shooting of his upcoming film Laal Singh Chaddha. As per the official website of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, the first lady received Aamir Khan at the presidential residence at the Huber Mansion in Istanbul on August 15. First Lady Erdogan has also tweeted about the same. The two discussed various social responsibility projects, one among which was Khan’s Water Foundation that he co-founded with his wife Kiran Rao to deliver water to drought-stricken areas in India. 
However, some netizens were quick to point out that amid strained ties between India and Turkey, it was unwise on behalf of Aamir to hold an official meet with the Turkish First Lady. India’s relationship with Turkey has deteriorated in the past several months, particularly after Article 370 was scrapped in Kashmir last year. Turkey has continued to side with Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. Turkish foreign ministry spokesperson recently also commented that removal of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir has not contributed to peace and stability in the region.
