7/G OTT: The Tamil horror-thriller 7/G, featuring Sonia Agarwal in the lead, is making its way to digital platforms after its theatrical release in July 2024. Directed by Haroon, this movie, which also stars Smruthi Venkat, Siddharth Vipin, and Sneha Gupta, is set to stream on Aha Tamil starting August 9, 2024. For those who missed it in theaters, this OTT release offers another opportunity to catch the film. Additionally, it will be available on OTTPlay Premium.
The film centers around a married couple, Varsha and Rajiv, and their son, Rahul, who move into a new apartment numbered 7/G. As they settle into their new home, they begin to encounter eerie and disturbing events, suggesting the presence of something supernatural. Despite its intriguing premise, 7/G struggled at the box office, as audiences felt the film didn’t offer anything new, relying heavily on familiar horror tropes.
Sonia Agarwal’s performance, along with those of her co-stars, Smruthi Venkat and Siddharth Vipin, has been a focal point of the movie. 7/G is their first collaboration, and while the movie didn’t resonate strongly with theatrical audiences, there’s hope that it may find a more appreciative viewership on the OTT platform.
On the technical side, Kanna handled the cinematography, Biju V Don Bosco took charge of editing, and Siddharth Vipin composed the music. The film’s production quality, including its visual and sound design, plays a crucial role in creating the eerie atmosphere central to the storyline.
There was some buzz earlier regarding the film’s title, leading to speculation that it might be related to the 2004 film 7G Rainbow Colony, which also starred Sonia Agarwal. However, director Haroon clarified that the title similarity was purely coincidental. Initially, the movie was planned to be set in apartment 8/G, but it was later changed to 7/G, resulting in the current title. The two films have no narrative or thematic connection despite sharing similar titles.
As 7/G transitions to the OTT space, it will be interesting to see how it is received by audiences who prefer streaming services.
