In the midst of recovering from the pandemic and its far-reaching effects, the Telugu Film Industry is doing its best to respond to various challenges like the uncertainty of theatre occupancy, audience permit of only 50%, absence of foreign theatrical revenue. In the road towards recovery and in an attempt to lift the industry from this situation, the Movie Artistes Association and The Active Telugu Film Producers’ Guild have agreed upon a 20% reduction on remunerations of the cast and crew involved in any Telugu film.
The rule isn’t applicable to those artistes who draw a salary under Rs 20,000 per day. However, technicians, individuals drawing over Rs.5 lakh per film will have to abide the reduction of 20% in remuneration. After viewing the response to the theatre opening and the possible availability of the COVID-19 vaccine, this plea will be reviewed, the Telugu Film Producer’s Guild statement tells us. This is certainly the need of the hour and it would have been ideal had the artistes voluntarily come forward to reduce their pay cut. Yet, better late than never.
