A disturbing incident occurred in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, where a girl was reportedly sexually assaulted, and 13 others were sexually abused at a fraudulent NCC camp. The camp’s organizer, along with the school principal and nine others, including teachers and a correspondent, have been arrested, according to police reports on August 19.
Authorities revealed that the private school did not have an official National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit. The camp organizers allegedly convinced the school that hosting such a program would help them establish an NCC unit, leading to the unfortunate event.
This incident has surfaced amidst ongoing protests and national outrage following the alleged rape and murder of a 31-year-old medical trainee in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Investigations revealed that the school management failed to conduct proper background checks on the group that organized the so-called camp. The camp, held earlier this month, involved 41 students, including 17 girls. Police stated that the girls were reportedly lured out of their lodging area and sexually abused. Shockingly, there were no teachers present to monitor or supervise the event.
The affected girls have undergone medical examinations, and the district child welfare committee has also taken action. District Superintendent of Police P. Thangadurai stated that the school authorities were aware of the sexual abuse but chose to cover it up instead of informing the police. The students were even allegedly told not to take the matter seriously.
Authorities are now investigating whether a broader network is involved in organizing such fake camps and if similar incidents have occurred in other schools. A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and further investigations are ongoing.
