Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film “12th Fail,” starring Vikrant Massey, has made a remarkable achievement by becoming the highest-rated Indian film on IMDb. The biographical drama, depicting the life of Manoj Kumar Sharma, has secured an impressive rating of 9.2 out of 10.
This achievement has placed “12th Fail” at the pinnacle of IMDb’s list of the top 250 Indian films, surpassing other notable movies like the 1993 animated film “Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama,” Mani Ratnam’s “Nayakan,” Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s “Gol Maal,” and R Madhavan’s directorial debut, “Rocketry: The Nambi Effect.”
With its exceptional 9.2 rating, “12th Fail” has outshone some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters of 2023, including “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” (8.6), Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” (8.4), “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” (7.9), Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” (7.8), “John Wick: Chapter 4” (7.7), and Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” (6.9), starring Margot Robbie.
Adapted from Anurag Pathak’s book, the movie features Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankar, portraying the life journey of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who rose from extreme poverty to become an Indian Police Service officer. The film emphasizes the significant role played by his wife, IRS officer Shraddha Joshi, in supporting his journey to success.
In a recent interview with popular media channel, Vikrant Massey shared the profound impact the film had on him. “Even while portraying Manoj Kumar Sharma, there were moments when Vinod sir would call ‘cut,’ and I would continue weeping because I just couldn’t control myself,” he recalled.
Massey also reflected on the personal impact of certain roles, mentioning how portraying his character in “A Death in the Gunj” led him to seek therapy. “That was the first time, after filming that movie, I began therapy because I felt the need to talk to someone. It’s challenging to share these things with parents as it worries them,” he explained.
