What comes onto the editor’s table is different from the copy that goes to the censors. So much of chopping and editing takes place before a film gets to hit the marquee. Come to think of it. Taxiwala was a three-and-a-half hour film. But, what actually was released was just 175 minutes long.
In case of Padi Padi Leche Manasu too, there were a lot of compromises with regard to length. The Rs 1 crore-song, about which a lot was made out, is simply missing from the film. The unit was left with no choice but to chop the song for the sake of the length.
Even otherwise, Padi Padi Leche Manasu has overshot the budget. But, this song, shot in Rajasthan, was talked about during the promotions of the film for its filming and grandeur. But, when the film was released, this song was missing Even without the song, the film is around two hours and 40 minutes long. The second half was quite lengthy and was a drag. There were many scenes that the director could have done without.
