₹1,452 crore released for AP panchayats: A major relief after Y.S.Jagan’s neglect

The NDA government recently released ₹1,452 crore for the development of AP panchayats, marking a significant step towards addressing issues neglected during the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy administration. The funds aim to revitalize the state’s local governance, directly transferring resources to panchayat accounts rather than being diverted.

In contrast, the previous YSRCP government faced criticism for its mismanagement. It failed to release funds such as stamp duty, per capita income, and sewerage charges, which panchayats were entitled to receive. The situation worsened when ₹5,500 crore allocated by the 14th and 15th Finance Commissions of the Union Government was reportedly diverted to other purposes, stalling essential infrastructure projects like road development and water supply.

During Jagan’s tenure, protests by various village leaders and sarpanches went unheard as they sought the release of overdue funds. Even in the 2023-24 fiscal year, ₹998 crore provided by the central government for panchayat development remained undistributed by the state government, creating further discontent.

In light of this, the current NDA alliance has taken a proactive approach, fulfilling its electoral promise by releasing ₹998 crore for panchayats, mandals, and Zilla Parishads. Additionally, ₹454 crore was allocated for municipal corporations, municipalities, and Nagar Panchayats. The total release of ₹1,452 crore is expected to resolve many of the longstanding issues that rural areas have been facing.

This move has been welcomed as a necessary measure to rectify the damage caused by the YCP government’s policies. It reflects the central government’s intention to ensure that funds reach the intended beneficiaries without bureaucratic delays or misallocation.

By addressing these critical gaps, the NDA government is positioning itself as a reliable partner in the development of Andhra Pradesh’s rural areas, restoring the trust of local governance bodies and citizens alike.
